EBSIS Mathletes Shine in International Olympiad in Thailand

Two exceptional students from Eduardo Barretto Sr. Integrated School (EBSIS) in Calamba City, Laguna, have brought pride to the school, the city, and the province after winning medals in the Siam International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (SIMSO) held in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 8–11, 2025.

Darryl Catimbang captured a Silver Medal under the guidance of his coach, Ms. Cathy O. Parabuac, while Charles Angelo Habana earned a Bronze Medal under the mentorship of Mr. Nimrod D. Poblete. Both students showcased their academic excellence in the highly competitive international stage, where 297 participants from countries including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Turkiye, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Hong Kong, and Singapore vied for top honors.

The two young mathletes were accompanied by Mr. Bryan Anthony O. Sario, Head Teacher II of the Mathematics Department of EBSIS, who provided support and guidance throughout the competition. Adding to the pride of the delegation, Mr. Sario was conferred the Honor Guest Award as a Laguna Manager during the event, recognizing his commitment to mentoring and promoting young talents in mathematics and science.

The remarkable achievement of Catimbang and Habana reflects the dedication of EBSIS in nurturing globally competitive learners and highlights the growing presence of Filipino students in the international arena of mathematics. Their victory stands as an inspiration to fellow students to strive for excellence and pursue academic challenges beyond the classroom.
