EBSIS Mathletes Triumph with 31 Awards in Speed Math Challenge

The Eduardo Barretto Sr. Integrated School (EBSIS) Mathletes once again proved their excellence in mathematics, bagging a total of 13 medals and 18 special awards in the recently concluded Speed Math Challenge organized by PhilMathGauge-4E, July 26. The event tested participants’ speed and accuracy in solving challenging math problems, with a special focus on algebra, under strict time constraints.

Leading the victory were the seven gold medalists: James Himer P. Lagunoy, Jewel Ivhory P. Eborde, Nigel Ivan M. Bebis, Darryl V. Catimbang, Keyne Criza Q. Dela Cruz, Jayme F. Rueda, and Bea C. Salendrez.

Earning silver was Angelo Rosales, while the bronze medalists included Rondeon G. Hornedo, Sophia Cassandra C. Halongong, Avril Ashlee S. Alcantara, Franchesca M. Odejar, and Trisha Anne H. Panday.

The Distinction Award was given to Zhindy G. Malabanan, Marc Jacob K. Borbon, Miley Mae Pacquiao, Jeanne Sheneld C. Moster, Angela P. Canico, Ronan Patrick E. Alinsod, Renz Daven D. Tarog, and Shanelle Dejito.

Meanwhile, the Merit Award recipients were Angeline Nicole M. San Gabriel, Princess Noimie M. Modino, Selindo III S. Naldoza, Angel B. Pingol, Aena Janelle S. Teodoro, Qwency C. Opulencia, Hainy C. Meneses, Margie Bless Maliwanag, Charles Angelo B. Habana, and Rhian V. Durana.

The team’s success would not have been possible without the dedication and guidance of their coaches, Mrs. Maria Eloisa M. Unigo and Ms. Cathy O. Parabuac. Notably, Ms. Parabuac earned recognition by ranking 29th nationwide for Level III as Best Coach in the competition.

The Speed Math Challenge stands as a testament to the Mathletes’ exceptional skills, determination, and love for mathematics, further solidifying EBSIS’s reputation as a hub of academic excellence.



EBSIS Mathletes Shine in International Olympiad in Thailand


Two exceptional students from Eduardo Barretto Sr. Integrated School (EBSIS) in Calamba City, Laguna, have brought pride to the school, the city, and the province after winning medals in the Siam International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (SIMSO) held in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 8–11, 2025.

Darryl Catimbang captured a Silver Medal under the guidance of his coach, Ms. Cathy O. Parabuac, while Charles Angelo Habana earned a Bronze Medal under the mentorship of Mr. Nimrod D. Poblete. Both students showcased their academic excellence in the highly competitive international stage, where 297 participants from countries including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Turkiye, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Hong Kong, and Singapore vied for top honors.

The two young mathletes were accompanied by Mr. Bryan Anthony O. Sario, Head Teacher II of the Mathematics Department of EBSIS, who provided support and guidance throughout the competition. Adding to the pride of the delegation, Mr. Sario was conferred the Honor Guest Award as a Laguna Manager during the event, recognizing his commitment to mentoring and promoting young talents in mathematics and science.

The remarkable achievement of Catimbang and Habana reflects the dedication of EBSIS in nurturing globally competitive learners and highlights the growing presence of Filipino students in the international arena of mathematics. Their victory stands as an inspiration to fellow students to strive for excellence and pursue academic challenges beyond the classroom.
