Math Dept undergoes training-workshop

Aiming to identify and explain misconceptions in teaching Mathematics contents such as Patterns and Algebra, Geometry, Basic Trigonometry, Statistics and Probability, five mathematics teachers underwent the four-day training-workshop on Mathematics Contents and Pedagogies for Key stage 3 teachers, July 27 – 30, 2021.

Five teachers of Eduardo Barretto Sr. National High School with less than 5 years in service attended the said training-workshop. They were Ms. Joan D. Saavedra, Ms. Michelle P. Abanza, Ms. Cathy Parabuac, Mr. Nimrod D. Poblete and Mr. Jeruel B. Canceran. The training aims to value the teaching of Mathematics contents by citing its importance and real-life situations and demonstrate skills in teaching problem solving using shortcuts or easy methods.

Professors from University of the Philippines—Los Baños Campus spearheaded the four-day training-workshop. On the first day, Professor Jane D, Palacio talked about Teaching Patterns and Algebra in an easy way.  Professor Ben Paul B. Dela Cruz  discussed and gave materials that can be used in teaching geometry. Teaching Basic Trigonometry was the topic on the third day discussed by Professor Mark Lexter D. De Lara. And on the last day of the training Professor Lynie Dimasuay led the discussion about statistics and probability. After the discussion, participants answered on individual and collaborative activities posted on google classroom.

“As one of the newest teachers of mathematics department in our school, I am grateful and honored to be part of the training-workshop. I’ve learned a lot in content and pedagogies (in Mathematics). And I am not expecting that I will be part of the top performing teacher in the pre-test. But still I am happy and thankful for acknowledging me in the division level.”, said by Mr. Canceran during the interview. Mr. Jeruel Canceran ranked six in the pretest of the training-workshop.
