Victorina D. Palanas, Head Teacher III of Eduardo Barretto Sr. National High School (EBSNHS) was finalist at the Search for Outstanding Teacher-Researcher during the Gawad Calambayani, Nov. 8.
Palanas was the Outstanding Teacher-Researcher of Cluster 5, Division of Calamba City. The cluster was composed of three high schools namely: Castor Alviar National High School, Eduardo Barretto Sr. National High School and Lecheria Integrated School. She is the research coordinator of Eduardo Barretto Sr. NHS. She is also the Vice President of Calamba City Researchers Association (CCRA). She conducted and implemented various researches since 2016. In fact, she is A Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) grantee year 2016 for second cycle, 2019 for 4th cycle batch 2 and 2020 for 5th cycle.
She provided technical assistance to her colleagues on how to make a measurable and reliable action research. She even conducted a School Learning Action Cells to EBSNHS and invites various speakers that talks about crafting of action research. She also organized a Research Congress in the school level to give significant assistance to the teachers who are going to participate in the division and regional conferences. And during the last concluded Division Conference, Palanas was awarded as Best Paper for Teaching and Learning Mathematics.
“Isa lang naman ang gusto ko, matulungan ang mga bata sa pag-aaral that’s why I am always thinking an innovations that caters the different needs of our students and pinapasok ko sya sa research para naman namomonitor ko yung effectivity ng mga innovations. Kung baga para talaga sa bata at para sa bayan.”, Palanas said during the interview.
Sario, Cluster 5’s Outstanding Teacher
Sario is an academic trainer of different local and international mathematics competition. He trained students and won some major awards in MTAP Math Challenge Competition yearly. In 2018 he become part of the Team Philippines as they represent the country in International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held at Singapore. He bagged awards for national and international competitions starting from year 2017 up to now. He is also a leader as he is appointed as chief adviser of grade 7 for five consecutive years. Sario is one of the teacher-researcher of the school. He participated in division and regional research congress.
He is accredited of United Kingdom’s Institute for the advancement of Vedic Mathematics as one of the Philippine Region’s Coordinators for the 1st International Vedic Mathematics Olympiad. Sario conducted and implemented various innovations and project that caters the needs and interests of the students. He is the adviser of Tinig Sipnayan. And He is also the lead proponent of Project Start Understanding and Planning (Start UP).
“To be honest, the first time na sinabi sa akin na I will represent the school in cluster level medyo natakot at pinanghinaan na ng loob because the last time that I represent the school in search for outstanding teacher na talo agad ako sa cluster pa lamang. Kaya noong sinabi na ako ang outstanding teacher sa aming cluster nagulat at masaya ako noon.” Sario said during the interview.
